Tom Horn
1860-1903

Tom Horn was perhaps one the most notorious "Hired Guns", employed by the cattle barons and ranchers in Wyoming and Colorado to control cattle theft at a time when the law was ineffective.

He worked as a scout, an interpreter, a Pinkerton Detective, and ranch hand among other careers before he specialized as a hired gun. He even frequented rodeos where he would show off his skills with the lasso.

In 1902 he was brought to trail for murder (and perhaps one he did not commit, although it was clearthat he was responsible for many others). The celebrated trial marked the end of the lawless "Wild West" for many people, who thought perhaps that the likes of Tom Horn did not belong in a modern civilization. In 1903 Tom Horn was executed, acting with dignity on his last day.
